What is the Intragastric Balloon?

The Intra-Gastric Balloon (IGB) is a soft, silicone balloon that is passed through the mouth and into the stomach while you are sedated. This procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and you will go home afterwards. The balloon is expanded and will remain in your stomach for six months after which it is removed by the same brief sedated procedure that was used to place the balloon. The balloon slows your stomach’s emptying and makes you feel less hungry.
